A Message from the Executive Secretary Treasurer
Hi, I’m John Grimshaw and I have been a proud member of the IBEW since February 1976.
I began my apprenticeship with a non-union company in 1973. After working for that company for about 8 months I was still not registered as an apprentice. Since it did not look like they had any intention of signing me up as an apprentice I quit my job and found an employer that would.
After working for a couple of different non-union employers over the next 2 years I was finally brought in to the IBEW through an Organizing Drive and began this incredible journey. Upon gaining membership I immediately began trying to become more involved with my Local Union and learning as much as I could about the inner workings of this organization.
I ran for, and was elected to serve in, various capacities and rose through the ranks to achieve the status I enjoy today as Executive Secretary Treasurer of the IBEW CCO.
I am telling you this because I want you to understand that the IBEW is a truly democratic organization that ensures every member has the right to become involved in their union and seek to be elected to office.
