Political Action

Political Action through Social Media

Labour Union Ontario Electrical Union
There has been an unprecedented attack on unions in general in North America for the past 25 or so years by the right wing corporate agenda which pits one segment of society against another. It’s a divide and conquer mentality that, quite frankly, has been successful.

It is my belief that it’s time all working people stood up together to stop the erosion of our standard of living and begin elevating working people to the level they work so hard every day to achieve. The working poor has increased dramatically in these past 25 years while at the same time corporate executives wages have risen to obscene levels.

Everything we do in our daily lives is affected by politics. Politicians at every level, whether it be municipal, provincial or federal, has an impact on numerous aspects of our existence. That is why the IBEW CCO takes an active role in working with politicians to ensure they understand the needs of working families in the different areas of the electrical industry. We also take the time to propose sound public policy initiatives for the betterment of all who work in our trade.

Every working person in this country should enjoy decent wages, good health and welfare benefits and a pension that allows them to live with dignity and security through their retirement years.

The IBEW in Ontario has taken a leadership role in the Working Families Coalition (WFC) to attack those who wish to generate policies that hurt working people.

Each IBEW Local Union is encouraged to start a Political Action Committee (PAC) and stay active in your local area. Politics are important! They are something that none of us can afford to ignore.
