Mapleview Electric Employees Vote to Join IBEW

March 28, 2017

IBEW CCO would like to welcome the 200 electricians and apprentices from Mapleview Electric, who have just voted to join the IBEW family.

They are now proud members of Local 353, one of the IBEW CCO’s most active chapters.

The employees of Mapleview Electric (based out of Woodbridge, Ontario) were previously members of the CLAC (Christian Labour Association of Canada).

The ballots cast by the Mapleview employees in IBEW’s application to displace CLAC as their bargaining agent were counted at the Ontario Labour Relations Board on March 27th, 2017. The result was an overwhelming vote in favour of IBEW and Local 353 Toronto.

“This is a huge win for the IBEW,” said James Barry, IBEW CCO’s Executive Chairman of Membership Development. “It’s also a clear message to CLAC that electricians and apprentices recognize the major differences and clear advantages that come with being an IBEW member and working with our vast signatory contractors base. Congratulations to all involved.”

Steve Martin, Business Manager Local 353 said, “I am extremely proud to welcome our newest members to IBEW Local 353. Once again, this demonstrates that if workers are given a truly free choice they choose the IBEW.”
