Sharpen those skates and step up those conditioning drills! The IBEW OPC (Ontario Provincial Council) is proud to announce that the 2017 hockey tournament is set for May 5th and 6th in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
This year, the tournament hosts will be Winnipeg’s IBEW Local 2085. As last year’s Division B champions in Ann Arbour, they are one of the top teams to beat this year. Other strong contenders include Sarnia, Michigan, and Ottawa.
All the details about fees, hotels, locations, and organizer contact information are included in the registration package.
Competition Meets Camaraderie
What started over 50 years ago with a few Ontario teams has grown into a North America-wide showdown, featuring teams from across Canada and the Eastern USA. The tournament brings IBEW members together for a weekend of exciting hockey competition in a different city every year.
Divisions A, B and C are open to everyone, plus there’s an additional over-40 division. There are plenty of additional awards and trophies up for grabs including:
- Rose Cup – MVP
- John Graf Memorial – Top Scorer
- Long Island Cup – Top Goalie
- Ottawa Cup – Best Defenseman
- Alex Duncan Trophy – Outstanding Coach
- Oldest Player Award
- Frazer Collins Award
- Daryl Lecuyer Memorial
- Outstanding Commitment Trophy
We try to keep the fees as low as we can to encourage as many teams as possible to attend. Fees cover ice time, hospitality night, and related essentials. As always, members are invited to bring their families to cheer them on.
See You On The Ice
Be sure to register soon and book your hotel rooms early to avoid disappointment. If your team can’t make it to Winnipeg this year, we hope to see you there!
