Message from James Barry

As promised in my message from June 26, 2019 I am pleased to announce we have presented our report titled : “Skills and Safety Matter” to MTCU Minister Ross Romano at an in-person meeting earlier today in Toronto. Accompanying myself were Graeme Aiken, Executive Director from ECAO, Ian DeWaard Provincial Director from CLAC and Stewart Kiff, President from OEL. This was a unprecedented show of unity from both management and labour representing the electrical industry and 309A & 309C holders across the Province of Ontario. On behalf of the IBEW CCO, I would personally like to thank the organizations named above for their support and insight into drafting this very thoughtful document.

I urge all members to read this report in its entirety and share with friends and family. We, as one of Ontario’s major stakeholders and voice in the electrical industry, will continue to champion the importance of maintaining our current “scope of practice” as a restricted skill set only to be performed by certified apprentices and Red Seal certified journey-persons.
