IBEW CCO to Sponsor Featherweight MMA Champion, T.J. Laramie, to Compete in Dana White’s Contender Series

August 7, 2020

IBEW CCO is proud to sponsor MMA athlete, T.J. Laramie, who ranked #1 in Canada in February 2020.

The featherweight champion and Windsor native has just signed a promotional agreement with UFC’s Dana White Contender Series, a mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion. The goal of the series is for White to scout talent for the UFC, as none of the fighters involved have existing UFC contracts.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers has been a proud sponsor of Laramie. The fighter’s exceptional performance and enthusiasm are just a few reasons why the IBEW CCO is happy to support Ontario athletes on a global stage.

Belcastro is grateful for the partnership between the IBEW CCO and local talent, “Working with the IBEW CCO has been great for T.J.,” he beamed. “The IBEW CCO found a way to build a platform for these kids and has really given them the support they need to take it to another level.”

Laramie is set to battle it out against Washington fighter and former NCAA wrestler, Daniel Swain. Rino Belcastro, Laramie’s coach at Maximum Training Centre, had this to say about the talented fighter, “When we met 10 years ago, T.J was just a kid looking to expand his interests and try something new,” he explained. “He’s always been a hard-worker, and that’s something you can’t teach. You see a lot of athletic kids these days but very few have the drive to take it one step further as T.J. has. It’s one of the reasons he’s been so successful at such a high level.”

The bout will take place on August 11th 2020 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada and broadcast live on UFCFightPass around the world and on TSN beginning at 8:oo p.m. EDT. Be sure to tune it to catch all the action!
