A Windsor eatery delivered its first of thousands of free meals to frontline workers Friday with the help of a new partner.
Through an agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 773, Mezzo Ristorante is expected to help feed 5,000 frontline hospital staff in Windsor, Leamington, and Chatham-Kent over the next three weeks.
“They are putting their own lives at risk to help manage this epidemic and protect us all,” said Filip Rocca, who co-owns Mezzo with Darcy King. “That’s something that needs to be supported in every way we can.”
The first batch of individually packaged meals was delivered on Friday to Windsor Regional Hospital’s Met and Ouellette campuses, as well as to Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare. Erie Shores HealthCare in Leamington and the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance will also receive meals.
“At the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, we are committed to the people in the community, and especially to the essential workers,” said CEO Karl Lovett. “IBEW respects what the men and women are doing in our hospitals, every person from reception, maintenance, nurses, doctors and security.
