The work picture at Local 1687 has been strong for the last 8 months explains Travis Merrett, Business Manager.
“We are fortunate to have full employment and, in addition, we have hundreds of IBEW travelers working here as well. One of our larger jobs are a result of our contractors; Aecon and Moreau, securing work at the Cote Gold Project in Gogama, Ontario and we foresee working on this project for another year.”
Yes, times are prosperous for the Local and their coffers are full. Local 1687 membership has donated five thousand dollars to each of the four major hospital pediatric departments in their area; Sault Area Hospital, North Bay Regional Health Centre, Timmins & District Hospital, and Health Sciences North.
“Our younger generation is critical to the well-being of our communities, and we are proud to contribute to helping children achieve healthy and productive lives. Our Local believes in sharing our prosperity with the community and I am sure we will revisit other projects to support later this year,” stated Merrett.
IBEW Local 1687serves the northern eastern region of Ontario and includes the Districts of Algoma, Cochrane, Nipissing, Sudbury, Timiskaming, Manitoulin Island, the District of Parry Sound, except for the Townships of Humphrey, Conger, Christy, Foley, Cowper, McKellar, McDougall and Hagerman; that portion of the District of Kenora bounded on the west by the 87° meridian and on the East by Quebec border in the Province of Ontario.
